Kaito KID x Reader: Shinri o Hakken

It was the eve of the theft. Sonoko helped you gain access to the opening exhibition party. You wore a simple (fav. color) cocktail dress and (complementary color) shoes. Ran, Conan, and Kogoro were also guests. You wandered next to the Dom Pedro, observing the beautiful cuts in the gemstone. You missed the figure walking up to you. 

"Good evening. Would it be too much to ask if your KID?" You turned to find the speaker was a sandy blonde boy about your age.

"Yes. Who are you, or what's your name this time if your KID?" You did not like being asked by a stranger claiming your KID.

The stranger raised his eyebrow with a smirk. "Either you're very fast, or KID truly wasn't expecting the real (last name) (first name) to come tonight."

"At this rate, it feels rude for you not to tell me whatever your name is." You were greatly fed up with this charade.

"Ah! (Name)-neesan! Hakuba-niisan!" Conan called out. He bustled over to join your conversation by the large aquamarine.

"Conan-kun! I didn't expect to see you here." The stranger was genuinely surprised to see him. 

"How do you know Conan-kun?" you asked.

"We've met before, (name)-neesan!" Conan was acting like I-am-most-definitately-an-elementary-schooler.

"Then, how do you know (last name)-san?" Blonde was confused with Conan's familiarity with you.

"She's good friends with Ran-neechan and Sonoko-neechan. She came with us to the party." Conan took a moment to take in the situation. "How do you know (name)-neesan?"

"I thought I met her over by the outskirts of the party. She was dress just like (last name)-san and introduced herself."

You were irked that KID dressed up as you, of all people. "Excuse my sudden departure, I'm going to find my doppelgänger." KID, why in the world would you pick me out of everybody here to dress up as?!?! You stormed around like an angry thundercloud. You noticed Ran and Sonoko were talking to someone over by the refreshments. Sneakily, you hid behind a nearby pillar to listen in on the coversation.

"I'm surprised you wanted to come to KID-sama's heist," Sonoko commented.

"I can't help if KID-san is here. I wanted to find someone in particular." Your voice came out of your doppelgänger's face.

"(name)-chan, have you really found someone you like?" Sonoko asked.

"Yes~" You knew without a doubt KID was "you".

"Really truly?" Ran asked. Sonoko and her were just eating this up.

"I've known him for a while now. We see each other once in a while, but don't hang out much." "You" sighed over dramatically.

"Why not?" Sonoko was taking the lead in "your" interrigation.

"He has an unusual schedule. Also we've yet to exchange phone numbers."

"How the heck did you two meet?"

"It was a complete accident. I was minding my own business when he ran into me."

"Come on, there has to be more than that!"

"Nope~ Not gonna tell~"

"If you won't tell us that, then at least describe what he looks like!" Sonoko and Ran crowded closer to "you".

"You" smiled deviously. "I would say he's quite the gentleman, while being very suave at the same time. He's cunning, witty, fun to be around-"

"-annoying at times, trickster, and a pain in the rear," you interjected. Sonoko, Ran, and "you" jumped when you walked out from behind the column. "Isn't bad luck to come across your doppelgänger?"

"You" tilted your head down, hair covering your face. Ran and Sonoko were looking back and forth, confused why there were two of you. Other people began gathering around the strange spectacle. You were focused on your twin, who was starting to shake in laughter.

"Ah, you got me~" A burst of smoke later, KID was in his full regalia. "In truth (name)-san, I wasn't expecting you at this party at all."

"Is that the only reason you chose to use me?" you asked with underlying fury.

"I would have felt lonely without you. Because of that, I decided if you would not be here in person, pretending to be you is second best." KID's hand was covered in smoke, only to produce a yellow rose for Sonoko. She squealed and giggled like a five year old getting a pony for Christmas. Ran was moving in to take out KID, who easily evaded her attacks and stopped her with a spurt of knock-out gas. Instead of going to you, KID ran to the Dom Pedro.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen," KID's voice boomed. "Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I'll have to do my show early..."

Your thoughts were in overdrive. Why didn't KID pick me up? This is the first time where he just ran over to the gem. I don't think KID's going to take me. If that's the case, I better beat him to the roof. KID was still bantered with Nakamori-keibu and the others, you ran to the stairs. That Hakuba person noticed your movements. 

Once you burst onto the roof, you planted yourself in front of the door. There's no way KID's going to get past me. Faint footsteps could be heard coming from the stairwell. You tap your foot impatiently, expecting to see the thief in white. When the door burst open, it was the blonde guy from earlier. Who was knocking down.

You didn't get a chance to say much, since there was a bang a moment later. Afterward you would be told there was a bullet hole in the stairwell. 

"Get off me!" you huff. 

"No. We have unsavory company looking to kill a certain thief. They won't hesitate to kill you too." The other guy pulled you out of the way while staying low. You struggled to go back out in the open, when another hand covered your mouth.

Before you could scream, a silky voice whispered, "Ah ah ah~ No need to alert Tantei-san and the others that I'm here." You whip around to see KID's monocle gleam in the moonlight. He motioned you move backward with him. Since 'Tantei-san' wasn't going to move out of your way, going with KID seemed like the only option. Besides, you still had to ask KID some questions.

KID somehow changed you into black clothes, as well as himself. Then he grabbed you, and jumped off the building. After flying for a couple of minutes, KID pulled out a remote and pressed the switch. A white dummy flew off the roof in the other direction, which was quickly shot down by someone. You were glad you weren't wearing white tonight. 

You were nervous with KID. Even though he had on his trademark smirk, being next to his tense body suggested KID was anything but calm. After landing on a far rooftop, KID set you down gently.

Before he could pull away, you grabbed his sleeve. "Why are you stealing gems?"

He laughed a little. "You sound like Tantei-san."

"Tell me why."

"When he asked a similar question, I told him to figure it out himself. So I say the same to you; figure it out yourself."

You bit your lip a little. "...Are you looking for Pandora?"

KID mask never faltered, but he went absolutely rigid. "You mean the Greek legend?"

"No. There is another legend where you hold up the gem Pandora under a specific comet to get eternal life. Pandora itself is inside another gem, which can only be found by holding a gem up to the moonlight. If it's in there, the gem will glow red."

"An interesting theory. If I were looking for Pandora, why? I certainly don't want to live forever."

"But others would. And they're not the most pleasant people. I think you're trying to beat them to it."

KID was still smiling, though his tone was frigid. "Any why would I?"

You frowned. "Perhaps... perhaps you naturally like to do some kind of good? Or they killed someone close to you?" The silence between the two of you was deafening. "You don't need to tell me. I'm just curious is all..." You turned away from KID to hide your blush.

KID was still standing there, unsure if he should confide in you or not. You were more afraid KID might just abandon you on the roof by yourself. You heard fabric rustling, and you closed your eyes hard, not wanting to see KID leave.

Instead, he came up behind you and gave you a hug. "If..." he faltered. "If I don't pull you into a heist, please don't go. If you end up being there, don't follow me up to the roof. I don't want to break 'Nobody gets hurt' rule." Unsaid was the extra line especially you.

You sighed. "Alright, I promise. But," you whipped around to see KID, "I should get something in return." He looked at you questioningly. "But I won't tell you right now. Some other time, got it?"

Kid chuckled. "I get the chance of another time?"

"You'll pull me in whether I want it or not. I'll tell you what I want sometime later."

"As you wish, my dear~" KID took your hand and pecked the back of it with his lips. As his hand left, yours was filled with a red rose. He jumped from the building, activating his glider and disappearing into the night.
